Support Equal Marriage - respond to the consultation

LGBT+ Liberal Democrats have launched a new campaign at http://www.abouttime.org.uk/ to encourage the public to support the Government's consultation into equal civil marriage.

Using the slogan "About Time for Equal Marriage", the campaign calls on people to respond positively to the consultation, and offers guidelines for response. The campaign is working with volunteers to raise awareness in London, Brighton, Manchester and other towns around the UK.

The campaign will encourage people to use the consultation to send the message that the best way to implement equal civil marriage is in a wider context of equality. This wider context includes allowing willing faith bodies to conduct same-sex marriages, giving equal access to civil partnerships, and removing requirements for trans people to divorce or dissolve existing legal relationships to obtain legal gender recognition.

The non-partisan campaign is sponsored and promoted by LGBT+ Liberal Democrats. Chair Adrian Trett said, "While we are pleased that this
consultation is happening as a result of the Liberal Democrats in Government, we want people of all political persuasions to respond positively to the consultation and push for full marriage equality."

The Liberal Democrats are currently the only major party to have adopted policy supporting equal marriage, though the leaders of all three major parties have pledged their personal support.

Party President Tim Farron MP is also supporting the campaign, and has urged party members to participate in the consultation. You can find his comments at http://www.libdemvoice.org/tim-farron-mp-writes-equal-marriage-consultation-take-part-and-spread-the-word-27600.html .
