Lib Dems have given their support to humanist celebrants being allowed to conduct marriage ceremonies

Liberal Democrat Conference supported the right of Humanist celebrants to conduct marriage ceremonies, both of opposite and same-sex couples.

At present only Humanists in Scotland can conduct a legally binding marriage ceremony. The proposal was part of a motion to allow marriage for same-sex couples and extend the availability of civil partnerships to opposite sex couples. LDHS committee member Richard Church spoke in support of the proposal to increase the rights of Humanist celebrants and those who wish to have a Humanist marriage service.
