HSLD Event at Spring Conference in Birmingham - Religion in the Workplace

4 Mar 2010

The Humanist & Secularist Liberal Democrats will be holding a fringe meeting at the party's Spring Conference to examine some of the issues that surround religion in the workplace.

Dr Ronan McCrea LLB, of the Lawyers Secular Society, will be the main speaker. Ronan is a lecturer at Reading University School of Law and his specialisms are: the relationship between religion and law, comparative constitutional law, EU law, the European Convention on Human Rights.

He will be supported by Cllr Ruth Polling, Executive member for Equalities Islington Council, who will recount the experiences of her council with the Ladele case. This concerned the Registrar who attempted to argue that she should not be expected to conduct civil partnership ceremonies because of her religious beliefs.

The meeting takes place on Saturday lunchtime (March 13) in the International Conference Centre, Hall 7b.
