Autumn Conference events and votes - Bournemouth, 14-17 September
With Autumn conference in Bournemouth coming up this weekend, here's what we have planned:
THE HUMANIST MARRIAGE VOTE, SATURDAY 14th SEPTEMBER, 11.50am-12.50pm
Support and vote for our amendment to the Equal Marriage motion, calling for the early introduction of legally-recognised humanist weddings in England and Wales.
THE AGM, SUNDAY 15th SEPTEMBER, 1-2pm
With Lord Jonathan Marks
Blandford Room, Highcliff Marriott Hotel
Please join us for our AGM, catch up on the year's activities and elect your new committee.
And hear Jonathan Marks on his Co-Habitation Bill.
Can the bill protect spouses whose religious marriages have never been legally recognised?
You can download your AGM Agenda from here, the 2018 AGM minutes from here, and the candidate nomination form here.
All welcome (although only HSLD members can vote).
THE CRIME DEBATE, MONDAY 16th SEPTEMBER, 9.35-11am
Watch out for our amendment on inclusive community associations, which has been drafted in to the Crime policy motion.
THE FRINGE: NO OUTSIDERS, MONDAY 16th SEPTEMBER, 11.30am-12.30pm
What happens when LGBT+ education conflicts with parents' beliefs?
Blandford Room, Highcliff Marriott Hotel
Should schools accommodate parents who believe that their rights are being violated when their children are taught about LGBT+ relationships?
Should parents be able to decide what the schools can teach?
Guest panel includes:
- Ruth Wareham (Education Campaigns Manager, Humanists UK)
- Imtiaz Shams (Faith to Faithless)
Chaired by Adrian Hyyrylainen-Trett (HSLD Chair)
...AND VISIT US AT OUR STAND IN THE EXHIBITION
You're very welcome to drop by, pick up your copy of our Essential Events, join (if you're not already a member), renew (if you are) or just touch base.
If you're able to help out on the stand for an hour or so during Conference, we'd love to hear from you!
Please email Kay at secretary@hsld.org.uk to book a slot, or just turn up and volunteer.
NOT SIGNED UP FOR CONFERENCE?
It's not too late! You can still register for Conference here, see Jo Swinson and her new team in action, help decide party policy at a critical time for the country - and vote for Humanist Marriage amendment - and come to our events.
NOT A MEMBER OR SUPPORTER? WHY NOT JOIN?
Supporters receive our emailings, and are invited to support our campaigns. Just sign yourself up to our emailing list here.
Membership costs just £10 a year. As well as ensuring that we have the funds that we need to campaign, you can vote at our AGM and stand for our committee.
2019/20 subscriptions are accepted from Sunday 1st September. Get your Membership form here - or you can sign up at conference.
