Baroness Falkner to speak at HSLD Conference

Baroness Kishwer Falkner will be the keynote speaker at HSLD's one-day conference on 20th November.

Baroness Kishwer Falkner has been confirmed as the keynote speaker for HSLD's one day conference in London on Saturday 20th November.

The conference - under the heading "Faith and the Challenges for the Coalition" - starts 10.30am, and will take place at the Directory for Social Change, 24 Stephenson Way, London NW1 2DP.

Baroness Kishwer Falkner was born in Pakistan, and is a former Director International Affairs for the Liberal Democrats. She has been heavily involved in international development at the Commonwealth Secretariat and is Chancellor of the University of Northampton. A peer since 2004, she speaks on home affairs in the Lords. She is a judge for the Accord Coalition's Inclusivity Award and in 2008 chaired the launch event of British Muslims for Secular Democracy.

Also speaking at the event is Naomi Phillips, who heads the British Humanist association's public affairs team, and is responsible for the BHA's campaigns covering a wide range of issues including public services, equality law, ethical issues, religion and schools, and social cohesion. She is also a director of the European Humanist Federation.
